When Jaimee was planning her birthday party, her personality was shining at its best. No skinny jeans, One Direction albums or makeup for this girl. It was all about princesses, tea parties, tiaras and dress ups. She begged me for "pass the princess parcel" for a game. All she wanted for her birthday was a baby born doll or a furby. You got the furby. Yep, my wee 8 year old still loves all things girly and sweet. And I love her for it. Long may you never grow up my darling.
We settled on a royal tea party - my girls were the only ones dressed up but do you think that bothered them one bit? They didnt even notice! I did introduce some new games to the girls - seeing how many cotton balls you can transfer between bowls on the end of your nose (made sticky with lanolin!) was a HUGE hit with everyone, who played it twice through the party! We played 'pop the balloon tied around ankle' game - note: make sure you use string, the wool i used kept snapping off! And then there was that youth group classic, 'the chocolate game' - the kids really liked that one once they got the hang of it! We also had a craft - design a dress (jeans and a top for our 2 males of the group!!) and decorate cupcakes. The tea party was a grand success, all 10 children squeezed around the table with their own real teacup and saucer. Fizzy was poured from teacups and the milk/sugar bowls were ladden with lollies. There were 2 courses laid in front of them - cherrios, sausage rolls and chips for the main, followed by chocolate slice (at the birthday girls request), the now decorated cupcakes, and of course - the cake!
I was thankful for a sunny day, our trampoline got a good workout between activities, and I was overwhelmed with the generous love poured out in gifts to our wee princess.
Jaimee, you are growing up so beautifully. I am so proud of you, and the way you show devoted friendship and kindness to your friends. I love how you think carefully about everything, and feel everything so deeply. Like I pray over you every n ight, May God bless you and keep you, may his face shine upon you, and may you always know how much He, and We, love you.
