The BIG Paint

When we moved into our house, I told Marty that the mustard yellow had to go.  It was everywhere, on the house, on the eaves, on the doors, the gate and even on all the kitchen cupboards.  Gross.  Talking to my neighbour, I discovered that this had been one of the previous owners (and builder of our house) favourite colours.  Lovely for her, not so much for me.  Well, 6 years down the track we have finally got around to painting our house.  Here is the before photo, when all we had done were the windows.

Our painter was our lovely DIY mate, Shane - who had previously helped us remove the fireplace in the lounge a couple of years ago.  We knew we could do it ourselves but had no clue where to start or what to do.  We needed a boss.  And anyway, we can't reach those high bits.  So Shane stepped up....which was really funny, cause he hates heights too!  Shane set the pace going, and ropped in some friends from church to help.  I worked alongside them whenever I had a free moment too.  Boy, our fingers were numb on those cold August days.  When i was hovering on top of the carport, painting the attic shutters, with a terribly strong and freezing wind ripping through...well, that wasn't a pleasant moment.  But it was great having Shane keep driving us along, or things wouldn't have gotten finished.

One Saturday he organised a working bee, where a whole bunch of Marty's friends from church and my parents showed up to paint.  We were utterly blown away by the willingness of people to give up some of their precious Saturday to paint our house on a cold winters day.  We didn't really appreciate how loved we are, and so value these friends who showed their love in this way.

Ross started some fun graffeti on the walls too - painting Lukes name (we set this photo up!)..that led to lots of fun messages and a joke of what great message we could put out on the street front (we didn't).

The girls really really wanted a bright purple/blue/pink house.  Or a rainbow house.  But I got my grey clean and modern look - it took a lot of convincing that this was the right scheme for our house to some of the guys, but I think everyone agrees in the end that it turned out just right.  TADA!

Now I am really motivated to paint the sheds to match and do those finishing touches like the doors and gates....lets erradicate that mustard yellow once and for all!  (But maybe on a less windy and cold day now that the boss is gone...hehehe).
