Snow Trip!

Earlier this winter it hit me - we only live 2 1/2 hours from the snow.  We could go there and back again in a day!  This sounded like a great idea at the time - In hindsight, it was a bit of a big journey for our family.  The trip took FOUR hours (with a lunch stop) to get there because we took the shortcut through the windy and nauseating Tihape road.  Both girls were carsick, meaning a slow and long journey with lots of stop and a bit of vomit.  Luckily we left Luke with granma, or it would have been even longer I bet!

When we finally saw snow, the girls perked right up and were so excited.  They couldn't remember their last trip, when they were both much younger.  They LOVED it.  We had borrowed awesome snow gear from friends which kept us dry, the rain stayed away (lots of prayer as it rained the whole way there) and it was warm and not at all windy.  Perfect!
We made a snow Princess, whose head wouldn't stay on.  We threw lots of snowballs - Jaimee thought this was hysterical, throwing one at me every time she walked up the hill.  They both ripped into sledding like pros, going up and down again and again while I sat at the top and cheered them on (Ok, I did have a few turns too!).

It was so much fun, although 8 hours travel time was a bit silly for the 2 1/2 hours we spent in the snow.  Will we do that again?  Yeah, we are stupid enough to do it again.  But next time we will take Luke and leave earlier in the morning and go the gentle way there, and we will come home after dinner with sleeping kids!    It was so much fun though.  Yay for snow!

  1. Yay for snow indeed! It sounds like you had an awesome time, even if the car travel to snow ratio wasn't great.

Love the snow outfits, so bright & colourful! :)
