Jaimee's Gym Prizegiving

This afternoon we got a surprise when we showed up for what we thought was the final gym class before tonight's prizegiving...it turned out that LAST week was the final class.  So I took a delighted Ella home with us for an afternoon of swimming and fun instead.  The girls were so excited to have an unplanned play date, and mermaids was played with great vigour - it was so much fun that they got BACK in the pool an hour later for round two!  We managed a quick 2 minute noodle snack before rushing out the door for the grand production we had been looking forward to.

Jaimee walked into the hall, which had been completely transformed for the night, and promptly burst into tears.  There was just far too many people and it was way too overwhelming.  My heart sank....please do this Jaimee, you have been looking forward to showing us your routine for so long!  I took her over and luckily once she was sitting with the kids she knew she settled down and we managed to score a front row seat thanks to our friends saving us a spot!  Thanks Anne-Marie!  I had to laugh when I anxiously tried to find a crying Jaimee, and instead found her chatting happily to the girls around her, patting them on the back and directing them on where to sit.  She is fine.  Whew.

Jaimee did a great job of her routine, set to "Count on me" by Bruno Mars.  Twirling her ribbon, and keeping her moves in time with the music, I was very proud.  Jaimee loved watching the big girls do their routines too, and it was the right motivation, she is dead keen to continue now which is great.  She especially loved the bar work by the senior girls, which had all the little girls gasping with amazement.  Jaimee got a 9.5 on the beam this year, a 9 on the bar and averaged an 8.5 overall.  Her downfall is the floor (7.5), which I am going to put down to her limited flexibility in her hips as a good excuse for that one (and I am sticking to it!).  We are so proud of you, Jaimee girl

Check out the concentration as she goes in for her somersault!

Beaming before saluting with her class!
When it came to the prizegiving part of the evening, the announcer completely fuddled the awards and called  Jaimee's name out first for a TROPHY.  We gasped, and caught this photo of her looking ready for a special duty.  But then there was a lot of whispered discussing, and they decided to present the class badges first, so she sat back down, a little confused I am sure!  We now had the camera poised though, with the surprise of a trophy coming spoiled a little....ah well, she got her name announced twice! lol  When she DID get awarded her trophy, it was for "Best Attitude and Effort" in her class.  Jaimee always has a great attitude, so we are very proud of her and pleased that this was recognised.  And mummy was rather loud in her affirmation when she stood up to get her trophy.  Her very first sports trophy...with her NAME on it....for KEEPS.  I never got one of those.  How cool for her!  Pity they spelt her name with only one 'e' at the end, but we will get that sorted for (the sure to be) next time....
Getting her level 1 gym badge from her coach Craig.
Finally!  A trophy for  best "Attitude and Effort"in her class.
Thanks for the flowers Granma and Grandad!
With a trophy, flowers and a cool badge (and full on sausages and raro), we finally got the kids to bed at 8.30pm.  A great night....I wonder if Kate will be part of the production next year? With a waiting list a mile long, we are waiting to find out!
